Ner Le'Elef Programs
Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires – Student Leadership Program (Sukkat David)
Ner Le’elef, began in Argentina, South America, in June, 2000. The first program comprised of a group
of 26 participants, all of them highly qualified from the most important Yeshivot in Israel. They are
highly motivated to do outreach and have a great spirit of sacrifice for the Jewish Nation. The first
two year program has been successfully completed and the graduates have taken up a range of important
communal positions in Buenos Aires and further afield. The Rabbis Training Program is directed by Rabbi
Abraham Serruya, Rabbi Efraim Dines and Rabbi Daniel Oppenheimer. In addition, experienced professionals
such as Rabbis, Doctors and Psychologists, Social Workers and Communications Specialists complete
the staff. Some of the program's accomplishments include the publication of two books so far
("Answer to the Unbeliever" and "Mixed Marriages"), which have been broadly distributed. Rabbi
Fabio Pirowicz has recently published a book, "Chadesh Iameinu KeKedem" with commentary on the
Parshat HaShavua. The most outstanding Rabbis of the city went to the book publication ceremony.
Ner LeElef in Buenos Aires has implemented the realization of Chuguei Bait (home-based lectures),
a very efficient Jewish outreach technique. The Chuguei Bait has reached, so far, more than 300
participants. We receive daily requests for Rabbis and teachers from the main cities and Jewish
establishments of South America (Caracas, San Pablo, Rio de Janeiro, Santiago from Chile and
Montevideo), of Panama and recently of Barcelona (Spain). One of our students, Rabbi Gabriel
Allami will be accepted as part of the community Magen David of Venezuela. Sukkat David also
includes the participation of 30 university students, who have been integrated into our community
with a schedule of study and community activities. Many of them are counselors for institutions
and social clubs.
Buenos Aires – Rabbis Training Program (R. Sacca)
Students with little to no Jewish background but with high leadership potential and a strong
commitment to Jewish identity are required to learn 4 hours per week in Judaic studies, plus
4 hours a week in Ner student leadership courses. Students also receive a stipend compensation
towards supervised community services as a part of their overall course framework. For example
some students are running a Sunday Talmud Torah in a section of Buenos Aires where there wasn't
any previous Jewish education available, some go to provinces outside the city to communities
with no formal Jewish leadership, some run Jewish education programs in government schools, some
are involved with web/multimedia projects, laying the groundwork for a global student movement
with a strong base in North America and South America.
